ASCOLI PICENO (45KM)
Il The old town, entirely in travertine, is one of the most beautiful in Italy.Around Piazza del Popolo (XV - XVI century). "heart"of the city, you must visit the church of S. Francesco, (1262 - 1550), in Romanesque-Gothic style, with the the convent’s cloisters, Loggia dei Mercanti (1513) and Palazzo dei Capitani del Popolo (XIII sec.).
Nei Nearby is also the beautiful Ventidio Basso Theatre.
In Arringo Square, the oldest square, there is the Cathedral of St. Emidio da Treviri, the Baptistery of San Giovanni and the medieval Palace dell'Arengo, home of the Pinacoteca Civica.
Places to be seen are also the church of SS. Vincenzo e Anastasio, the bridge of Augusteo di Porta Solestà, Tufilla Door, fortress Pia, the strong Malatesta, the church of St. agostino, Lombard Palace, the Tower of Ercolani (one of the few surviving towers of the dozens that appear in the medieval news).Ascoli Piceno also offers a rich and typical cuisine. Among the most famous are fried olives and Meletti anisette.
