CIVITELLA DEL TRONTO (30KM)
On a beautiful hill (600 m) offering an enviable view extending from the Gran Sasso to the Adriatic Sea, the village of Civitella del Tronto is one of the most interesting of the region for its architectural beauty, all enclosed within ancient walls. The town is, in fact, dominated by the Bourbon Fortress, the second biggest in Europe and beautifully preserved and restored.Today it can be visited, in all its impressive squares, bastions and trenches, with a museum of arms which allows you to retrace its history.
Another important site to visit are the churches of San Francesco ( the precious 1300 rose windows and the wooden choir) and San Lorenzo, the Franciscan Monastery of the Madonna of the Enlightenment and the beautiful Montesanto Abbey.
