SANCTUARY OF SAN GABRIELE (50KM)

It was founded by St. Francis of Assisi in 1215.Next to the old church, in modern Gothic style, is the new futuristic sanctuary, all in steel and white concrete, which houses the crypt of San Gabriele dell’Addolorata, the patron of Abruzzo and Saint of the smile and  of the Young.  IThe Sanctuary, a place of pilgrimage each year for millions of devotees, is governed by the Passionist Fathers who made it a landmark  for many religious initiatives such as the Biennale of International Sacred Art  and the Tent City of Catholic youth.
